OQ Live Conversation: “Looking at Reality” with Elizabeth Mattis Namgyel and Erik Pema Kunsang.

Elizabeth and Erik Pema Kunsang engaged in questions about “looking at reality.” Erik spent sixteen years at the side of Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche, serving as his principal translator and close disciple. He has translated over sixty volumes of Tibetan texts and oral teachings. He is currently the resident teacher of Rangjung Yeshe Gomde in Denmark, his native land. Gomde is an international dharma organization inspired and guided by Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche, Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche’s eldest son. Erik teaches widely at Gomde and online, within the Bodhi training program.

ABOUT ELIZABETH MATTIS NAMGYEL

Elizabeth Mattis Namgyel is a Buddhist author, teacher in Mangala Shri Bhuti, and founder of the educational non-profit The Middle Way Initiative. She hosts the Open Question Podcast.

Elizabeth has studied and practiced Buddhism since 1985 under the guidance of her root teacher Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche. She is the Retreat Master at Samten Ling retreat center. She is the author of two books, The Power of an Open Question and The Logic of Faith.  Elizabeth is an adviser for the Prison Mindfulness Institute and the Khyentse Foundation Vision Project and the Milinda Program. With Anam Thubten, she is a founding member and teacher in the Wilderness Dharma Movement.

ABOUT ERIK PEMA KUNSANG

Erik Pema Kunsang is the resident teacher at Gomde. Erik guides people to see and make room for natural qualities of openness, mildness and confidence.

Born in Denmark, Erik has since 1972 studied and practiced the teachings of Buddha, and especially the instructions Padmasambhava. He has been trained by many masters including the Dzogchen master Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche Rinpoche, whom he stayed with for 16 years as servant and interpreter.

Since 1975 he is guided by Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche. During Rinpoche’s encouragement Erik initiated a study center and a translation program in 1981, both with the name Rangjung Yeshe. Erik has translated and published over 60 volumes and his Tibetan-English dictionary is freely available on the Internet.

Erik is the founder and teacher of the Bodhi Training program, in which students are gradually guided towards inner transformation in an experience based manner.

Nesta preciosa oportunidade, Elizabeth e Erik Pema Kunsang vão explorar sobre “olhando para a realidade”.

Erik passou dezesseis anos junto a Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche, servindo como seu principal tradutor e discípulo próximo. Ao longo desse período e posteriormente, traduziu mais de 60 volumes de textos tibetanos e ensinamentos orais.

Atualmente, é professor residente do Rangjung Yeshe Gomde, na Dinamarca, seu país natal. O Gomde é uma organização internacional de Dharma inspirada e guiada por Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche, filho mais velho de Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche. Erik ensina amplamente no Gomde e também online, no âmbito do programa Bodhi Training.

SOBRE ERIK PEMA KUNSANG 

Erik Pema Kunsang é o professor residente no Gomde. Erik apoia as pessoas a reconhecer e dar espaço às qualidades naturais de abertura, suavidade e confiança. Nascido na Dinamarca, Erik vem, desde 1972, estudando e praticando os ensinamentos do Buda, com especial ênfase nas instruções de Padmasambhava. Recebeu formação de diversos mestres, entre eles o mestre de Dzogchen Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche, com quem viveu por 16 anos como servidor e intérprete.

Desde 1975, é guiado por Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche. Inspirado por seu mestre, Erik deu início, em 1981, a um centro de estudos e a um programa de tradução, ambos sob o nome Rangjung Yeshe. Ao longo dos anos, traduziu e publicou mais de 60 volumes, e seu dicionário tibetano-inglês encontra-se disponível gratuitamente online.
