Leaning Into the Haunted Dominion of the Mind

Please join us for the livestream of Leaning Into the Haunted Dominion of the Mind (2026) with Elizabeth Mattis Namgyel

Dharma encourages us to work directly with the challenging aspects of life. It never recommends that we avoid them. Some methods - like the methods of chod or cutting through - take us straight to the heart of the matter. Unless you are willing to expose the ego and lean into the things that scare you, liberation is not a possibility. Yes, this may sound scary…but think twice, because things may not be as they seem.

In this day-long retreat, Elizabeth will share a brief history of chod and discuss the view of its founder, Machig Labdron. There will also be guided meditation and plenty of time for discussion.

Art of Meditation Global Summit: Burning With Love in a World We Can’t Fix

Burning With Love in a World We Can’t Fix

We often wish we could fix the world - bring it to a static state of peaceful equilibrium. Of course, that’s impossible, not because the world is broken, but because life is too dynamic for the likes of our ideas. The path of the bodhisattva centers on navigating our way through the heart of this predicament in the most stunning way. Elizabeth will use the story of the bodhisattva, Avalokiteshvara - The One who doesn’t avert his attention from the suffering of beings - to explore this topic.

What can we do when the suffering of the world gets overwhelming? In this weekend program, Elizabeth Mattis Namgyel will explore the inspiring story of Avalokiteshvara, a great being who realized the essence of the Buddhist path, called the Way of the Bodhisattva.

Elizabeth will use Avalokiteshvara’s story as a basis for personalizing the methods and liberating insight of the bodhisattva path. Does bringing inquisitiveness to our own impediments necessarily have to be painful? Could it be freeing instead? How does this path help us create grace in our lives?

The Path of the Bodhisattva: Living in the Heart of the Human Predicament

Bodhisattvas understand the human predicament. While striving to relieve the suffering of all beings, they know that our dynamic world can never be brought to a static state of peaceful equilibrium. As aspiring bodhisattvas, how can we develop a big enough heart and mind to embrace this paradox? How can we engage with both the pain and beauty of life in a healthy way? We will have a weekend to ponder these questions with Elizabeth Mattis Namgyel.

Making an early entrance into Vajrayana Buddhism as a nun, Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo has paved the way for modern Western yoginis and yogins alike. As a teacher, she encourages us, both through her example and teachings, that if we engage dharma training full-heartedly, accomplishment is sure to take hold in us. The Liberating Practice of Looking and Not Finding

Elizabeth Mattis Namgyel invites you to engage with her in the liberating practice of looking and not finding. Elizabeth has said, ”If one were to ask: “What did the Buddha teach?” It would be accurate to reply: “The Middle Way.” Middle Way wisdom challenges the unexamined assumptions we have about things, what the Buddha called ‘extreme views.’ She will continue on themes of Madhyamaka reasoning and analysis which are often misunderstood as ‘intellectual’ and hard to apply to our own experience. But it doesn’t have to be that way. The purpose of analysis is to free our minds from confusion – to liberate us.
